The forefoot feels fantastic quick on jumpers and recovering on defense and when running, no slappy feel like some UA shoes have had in the past. Still, impact protection is great without riding thick and high like most foams. There is still a low, dense, responsive feel, although the EVA takes some of the bounce away. Not as good as the Clutchfit Drive, but that is a tall order. That leaves Micro G in an EVA carrier, and that feels pretty darn good. However, that open cell, mushy foam will die out quick. The Ortholite insole is a thing of beauty on step in but gives the shoe a soft, mushy feeling when playing. If the surface is smooth, the Fireshot should be good.ĬUSHIONING – Micro G. The pattern is shallow but the rubber is hard, so outdoors is a tough call. Wiping was easy with the wide pattern, but if you are playing on a semi-dirty court, get ready. But the soles grabbed every piece of dust available and kept them like treasure. To be fair, traction was bad for everyone (except the one guy wearing Kobe 8’s).
Wednesday it’s back to the same 24, and after two days, there is dirt, dust, grass clippings, and other things I don’t want identified on the floor. The floor is known for great traction, and I had no worries. On Tuesday, play is at a local church with a rubber floor (it sucks, don’t ask).
No slipping at all and it was almost Curry 2-like. On Monday, when my 24 Hour Fitness court was clean (they sweep on Monday mornings), the Fireshot was stuck. TRACTION – Looks like it would suck, and to be honest, it did - on dirty, grimy, 90’s East Coast rap courts. Side to side movement was minimal from heel to toe and I had no issues at all with the foot moving around while playing or sliding off the footbed.
Not enough to make me think the Under Armour Fireshot was coming off or unstable, but enough that it was noticed. The heel counter is soft and coupled with the ankle sleeve, there was some movement up and down. Do not expect it to lock in completely like a padded ankle collar does. But, and it’s a big but, the CompFit is NOT stiff in any way. The midfoot lacing system, coupled with the full-length tongue/sleeve, hugs like a great aunt, and the ankle CompFit wraps tight. The lacing in the forefoot is set back from the toebox giving an extended appearance, but when on foot the upper fits perfectly in the forefoot. That may look a little long, and the shoe does look like Snoopy on meth, but stay true. I think that covers it, let’s run…įIT – True to size. The ankle sleeve is CompFit, which forms around the ankle almost like a neoprene sleeve. However, after the first wear, all is good (more in FIT). The upper is the trick - on the surface, the material appears hard and non-conforming made up of a mesh underlay with synthetic over the top, there are no visible flex joints or seams. The outsole is comprised of thick treads of hard rubber, but they’re not very deep. The Micro G underneath gives us what we need, but that’s comes later. The insole is OrthoLite soft, cushy, foamy, and feels great on step in, but way too cushy for playing in by itself. MATERIALS – I know what the website says, and I know what info is already out there, but the midsole features Micro G cushioning.
